Beetle Kill Pine Information

The Beetle Won! Now What?

Almost all of Colorado’s Lodgepole Pine trees have been killed by the Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB), and it’s likely that the rest of the trees will be gone by 2012.  The MPB can’t be stopped.  But we can make good use of what is left.  Beetle Kill Pine (BKP) can be used for many things from fuel to furniture.  MPB create a fungus in the trees that leaves the wood with some beautiful coloring from blues to greys.  It’s not just pretty to look at, it’s good for firewood, pellets, flooring, siding, all kinds of furniture, even kitchen cabinets.  The more we can use the wood, the more we can lower the fire danger, and do something great with all the extra wood available.  BKP products are Colorado state tax free, and are tax free here in Leadville.  Colorado is generating new industries using BKP and needs continued support from the government, and YOU!

Our furniture can also be seen at Full Circle Design in Breckenridge, together with the Beetle Kill Trade Association they have set up a showroom featuring all kinds of BKP products. Check out the link below and watch the video done by 9news.  Our “desk” is mentioned and shown in the clip.
